About Dan Hartinger
Dan is the Deputy Campaign Director for Parks and Public Lands Defense. He works to lead a coalition of organizations in defense of the Antiquities Act and existing National Monuments – with a focus on legislative and executive branch attempts to undermine the Antiquities Act and repeal existing monuments. Since joining the Wilderness Society in 2014, Dan has been focused primarily on these defensive efforts and has engaged in both proactive public relations work to build support for this vital conservation tool as well as rapid response defense, messaging, and outreach in opposition to the dozens of bills and amendments that have been introduced to undermine the Antiquities Act in that time.
Currently, the Department of the Interior is conducting a “review” of all national monument designations since 1996 as directed by a recent executive order. In response to this review, Dan has helped lead a nationwide effort to get over 1 million Americans to submit comments in support of national monuments to the Department of the Interior. The comment period will remain open until July 10th and Secretary Zinke has until August 24th to return recommendations for possible changes to these monuments.
Before joining the Wilderness Society, Dan worked for a federal relations consulting firm, FaegreBD Consulting, on a wide variety of federal issues on behalf of local governments and other public sector entities. Previously, Dan also worked for Congresswoman Donna Edwards (MD-04), the U.S. Green Building Council and Student Conservation Association. Dan is a proud University of Maryland Terrapin, graduating with a degree in Biology with a concentration in Ecology.
His passion for land conservation grew out of his love of the outdoors as an Eagle Scout in New Jersey and in seeing what a committed group of concerned activists were able to do to preserve a local camp from development.
Joining an Envirorun Event
- Envirorun will meet in the 2nd-floor private dining room, before going out on the fun run. There will be a place to store bags while runners are on the trails. After the run, we will return to the venue for networking and hear from the speaker at 7 pm. Non-runners welcome to join!
- Envirorunners may store personal belongings, at your own risk, before the start of the Envirorun at the host location. The room will be monitored during the run, but again, please note that the host location and/or the Envirorun are not liable for theft or damage.
- The Envirorun will provide a safety and route briefing before the runners begin, but Envirorun and/or the event sponsors are not liable for injury or damage caused because of participation in the fun run.
- The networking session following the run is designed to provide an opportunity for connecting with the environmental community, with food and drink available for purchase.
